Tardiness Policy
Students must be in their classroom by the 8:00 AM bell to be considered on time.

Students arriving after 8:00 AM will be marked tardy.

Students arriving after 8:05 AM must check in at the school office.

Junior Kindergarten through 1st Grade must be checked in by a parent or guardian.

Ten tardies in one quarter (excused or unexcused) will trigger a truancy warning and may impact the student’s continued enrollment at City Christian School.

A doctor’s note will excuse the tardy for that day.
Absences
Parents must notify the school by 8:30 AM if a student will be absent. Fill out the form here

Ten absences (including early dismissals) in a quarter—excused or unexcused—will result in a truancy warning.

Truancy may affect a student's ability to remain enrolled at CCS.
Excused Absences Include:

Personal illness
-
Quarantine by health officials
-
Medical or dental appointments
-
Funeral of an immediate family member
-
1 day in-state / 3 days out-of-state
-

Illness or medical appointment of a student’s own child
-
Justifiable personal reasons (with advance written request and approval), such as:

Court appearances
-
Religious holidays or ceremonies
-
Religious retreats (up to 4 hours per semester)
-
Funeral services
-
Employment or educational conferences
-
-
Time with immediate family in military service (before/after deployment or on leave)
-
Naturalization ceremony to become a U.S. citizen
-
Participation in religious instruction
-
Work in the entertainment industry (up to 5 days/year with valid work permit)
-
Any other reason approved by the Head of School
Note: “Immediate family” includes parents/guardians, siblings, grandparents, or any relative living in the student’s household.
Absence Verification
A student returning to school must provide verification for the absence. Accepted methods include:

Parent email to the school office

In-person or phone communication with a school staff member
-
Doctor’s note or appointment slip
Students have one day per day missed to make up work. (e.g., absent Monday = work due Wednesday).
For absences longer than two days, parents should contact the school office to arrange a time to pick up work.
Planned & Extended Absences
For any known or planned absence:

Submit an Excused Absence Request Form

Notify the principal or office as early as possible
For extended absences, a formal email request must be sent to the Head of School for School Board review at least one month in advance. Requirements include:

Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
-
Request must explain purpose, length, and provide for regular school contact
-
Purpose must involve travel, study, training, or work not available through another option
-
Families may need to arrange tutoring; makeup work is still required
-
Exams will not be rescheduled unless for emergencies
Unexcused Absences
Any absence not falling under the reasons listed above is considered unexcused.

Absences without a doctor’s note within 2 school days will also be unexcused

Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up missed classwork or tests

In-school and at-home suspensions count as unexcused absences
Excessive Absences & Truancy
If a student reaches:

10+ absences per semester, or
-
20+ absences per year,
A formal review will be required, and documentation must be submitted to the Head of School for the School Board to consider.
At the discretion of leadership, excessive absences may result in a truancy report to the Ventura Police Department and possible dismissal from City Christian School.
